Whitecross Street Party
This weekend sees the launch of the Whitecross Street Party. Taking place over the weekend of 24 July and the 25 July, the party will see Whitecross Street(EC1) closed for the event with loads of fun activites with top artists exhibiting their work and using the street as a canvas.
This from the press release:
The whole Street will become a creative haven of artistic opportunity. Not only will two dozen leading artists transform the street to become a giant canvas but also local schools, community centres, local businesses, local council and local charities in unison have pitched together to make this event one to be remembered. Showcased also will be over 10 underground musicians playing Parisian style right on the street. Whilst also expect loads of wonderful activities and things to do for all ages. This will include things like giant knitting, carnival parades, silk screen workshops, children's photo booth, stencil printing workshops, live art demonstrations, birds of prey and lots more. On top of this we have combined forces with The Barbican to ensure at the end of the road you can also experience Barbican's 'do something different weekend'. Make sure to come hungry and thirsty, there will be loads of lovely food available and lots of places to relax to make a whole afternoon of this event.
Work began earlier in the week with large canvases and installations being installed along Whitecross street. Visit the Whitecross Street party website for further details including a full line up of all the artists contributing work / painting live.
The event takes place on
Whitecross Street, Islington, EC1, walking distance from both Old Street and Barbican underground stations.
