Safewalls — London Calling
We first mentioned the Safewalls project back in November having met some of the guys behind the project at the Mark's and Stencils show at Pictures On Walls pop up space in central London.
Safewalls is a new Cirque du Soleil art project which will see them commission original artworks inspired by the Cirque du Soleil's show. The works will be created by celebrated 'lowbrow' and street artists from across the globe and will be exhibited around the world on a 12-month tour. Starting this month February 2011 a temporary SAFEWALLS exhibit will be held in a predetermined city where a Cirque du Soleil show is scheduled to run. The exhibit will be cumulative, growing in size as works of previous cities are added to the collection.
The first stop on the twelve month tour is London where they have selected three UK artists to create an alternative poster designs for Cirque du Soleil show TOTEM.
The three artist to be commissioned by Safewalls are Jon Burgerman, Sweet Toof and Glenn Anderson. All three artists introduce themselves in the above video, where they talk about their art, about street art and a bit about breakdancing!
The commissioned poster will be on display later this month from February 17 at East London's High Rollers Gallery. ( More info on that show soon)
