As mentioned back in November 55DSL kick started a unique art and music tour of various venues across the UK. The exhibition has now made its way to London at the 55DSL Flagship store on Newburg Street. 55 Roots is a retrospective celebration of roots music and it’s influence on youth culture and popular music.
They have selected six new up and coming artists to visually interpret a selection of twelve original Trojan tracks that have fundamentally influenced Youth Culture and Popular Music. Artists include Dragon and Shibuya from Japan, Mitchy Bwoy of Straight No Chaser and Bugz in The Attic fame, as well as James Carey, Jim Stoten, and Peter Quinnell.
A limited edition magazine edited by Paul Bradshaw - publisher and editor of Straight no Chaser and designed by Mitch is available to accompany the works and for those who ask, a LTD edition CD of the twelve tracks that inspired the artworks including Lee Scratch Perry’s ‘Disco Devil’, King Tubby’s ‘Skylarking’ and Bob Marley & The Wailers ‘Caution’
The 55 Roots exhibition is on show at the 55DSL store now until the end of February.
