The King's Land Mural Project — Revisited

The King's Land Mural Project

Back in April of this year we headed up to Haggerston in East London to catch up with Egyptian born artist Nazir Tanbouli. We had heard the artist was working on a self funded mural project on the grounds of the Kingsland Estate, a block of eight semi derelict flats located just off Kingsland Road. With the blocks set to be demolished, Nazir approached the building owners L&Q Housing Association seeking permission to make use of the empty building for his mural project in efforts to brighten up the estate for the last few residents awaiting relocation.

With permission granted from the Association, Nazir set to work covering the exterior walls with his work and The King's Land Mural Project was born. We featured several murals and his large scale painted posters from The King's Land Mural Project here back in April when we photographed the site. We revisited The King's Land Mural Project over the weekend and it looks like Nazir has continued creating new murals across the estate adding to those we first saw in April. Below are a selection of our photographs featuring some of Nazir's new work and that of Tony Lee, who has also been contributing to the project.
