Niels 'Shoe' Meulman for Moniker Art Fair

Niels 'Shoe' Meulman

We headed over to Great Eastern Street this afternoon to catch up with Dutch graffiti legend and designer Niels 'Shoe' Meulman. An early pioneer of the Calligraffiti, an art form that fuses calligraphy and graffiti, we got to see the artist in action first hand applying his signature letters to the huge Village Underground wall. Meulman is in London for this years Moniker Art Fair who are taking over the Village Underground space this Thursday 11th October for the third year running. Meulman is one of 17 other invited artists who will be creating artist project spaces for the fair including Jorge Rodriguez-Gerada, Hush, C215, Pam Glew, Ludo and Remi Rough to name a few.

With road works on Holywell Lane having closed off one half of the street, it made working conditions slightly difficult for the artist. With large buckets of Chrome paint, super-sized and make-shift mop brushes, Meulman managed to finished the large scale wall this evening after just two days despite all the crazy traffic and double deckers buses whizzing past the artist. With fading light conditions we were unable to get a full shot of the completed wall that we were happy with so check back with us tomorrow for a shot of the finished mural.
