Lucy McLauchlan — Lazarides Exhibition

Almost forgot this as well, Lucy McLauchlan’s second solo show at Lazarides Gallery opens to the public tomorrow with the gallery. Exhibiting a new body of work, McLauchlan’s distinctive caricatures appear in paintings, sculptures and site-specific installation.

Paint cans, ex-Police riot shields, doorways, camper vans, plastic containers, driftwood, and brick walls have all been transformed by Lucy McLauchlan’s graphic, fluid monochromatic style. In our technologically dominate age forget digital manipulation, McLauchlan prefers to stick with Indian ink or permanent marker often allowing the mistakes to take centre stage in her fantastical murals.

Highly influenced by her hometown of Birmingham and its conflict between industrious history and untouched countryside, McLauchlan’s expressive protagonists in their various guises incorporate a multitude of meaning. They allow her to personify current affairs and to capture the sentiment of a disjointed society in her unassuming beautiful approach.

Lucy's show will run from the 1 July — 12 August 2010. The gallery is open Tuesday — Friday 11am - 7pm and Saturday 12pm - 5pm, admission free.
