Tonight at the Elms Lesters Painting Rooms, sees the opening preview of an exhibition of new works from James Marshall, aka DALEK, and Boris Tellegen, aka DELTA. This exhibition brings together two artists whose majestic use of colour, geometrical and architectural references have written a new chapter in street art’s history.
We have long been fans of both of these artist but especially Daleks work. From his early London exhibitions in the Best gallery with his painting of the infamous Space Monkey character on beautiful old bits of cardboard, to the fantastic mural on Bedford Avenue in Williamsburg, NY which I first stumbled upon in 2003, we loved the strong bold colours and crazy characters featured in his work and have been fans since.
In April 2007 we got to see Dalek's solo show at Jonathan Levine Gallery in New York. This show saw Dalek's work move in a new direction, less of the Space Monkey character and more focus on vibrant layered patterns of colour. We were blown away by the work and quality of the lines at that show and are really looking forward to seeing where Dalek's work is it at two years on. It will also be interesting to see the contrast between the two very different colour pallets each of the artist use in their work.
The show runs from 28 August - 26 September, with a Private View tonight, 27 August, 6 – 9pm
