Hookedblog have been spending quite some time further East in Walthamstow since the start of this year as our friends at Wood Street Walls step up a gear. The Wood Street based community art project has been working to bring art to the neighbourhood in the London Borough of Waltham Forest. We have been documenting the work they have been doing in the area and have previous featured many of the murals they have helped to produce with street artists such as Malarky (covered here), WelikeStactic (covered here), The Toasters (covered here), Teddy Badden, ATM, Bonzai, and more recently Dale Grimshaw (covered here) and Mr.Cenz.
For their latest mural, Wood Street Walls enlisted the help of London based Irish artist Conor Harrington on what is their largest wall to date. Located on Ray Dudley Way just next to Walthamstow Central station, this new mural was painted over three days by Harrington. We stopped by over the course of the three days to check out the artist at work and to capture some images to share here on the blog. With the sun shinning for the most part it was a pleasure to see this talented artist at work on what one local kid called an ' Epic Piece'. This dramatic street piece from Conor Harrington was drawing a lot of praise from many of the the local residents who use the route daily to the train station and were more than happy to see some colour on this previously blank wall.
Wood Street Walls are taking part in with the upcoming 2015 edition of the E17 Art Trail which kicks off on the 30th May and it might just be the ideal time to visit this part of London and check out all the Wood St. Walls street art works. For those wanting to catch the works in person we have just put together an art map with the locations of where all the murals can be found.
The E17 Art Trail now in it's 11th year, is a two week long program of community led events which will celebrate the creativity in the borough. They will host 250 events and exhibitions and this year will see 100s of local artist open up their studio space to the public.
